Garden rooms

Koncepcja

ALUPROF S.A. has developed a new Thermally Insulated Profile System MB-WG60, which can be used in the construction of garden rooms, and other structures such as conservatories, verandas or ateliers (workshops).

Our aim was to design a system which could be used as living space throughout the year, and additionally as a veranda made of cold-formed sections which can be glazed with polycarbonate plates. The Garden Room system will come in the form of model designs and architectural solutions designed individually in combination with the MB-SR50 curtain-wall system, with the profiles of this system allowing for the construction of roofs with very long rafters.

The main idea behind the system is to enable the construction of a warm roof based on pillar profiles, with the possibility of incorporating any MB window and door system into vertical walls. The system also provides the possibility of achieving even the most complex roof geometry. The MB-WG60 Garden Room System meets the most-stringent requirements for thermal insulation and ventilation, regardless of the weather conditions. Notably, the system is easy to prefabricate and assemble.

The structure

The Garden Room system was designed in two variants to consider the basic requirements of users in terms of the desired aesthetics of a garden room. In the first version, the basic structural profiles, i.e. rafters, have the characteristic shape of a reversed “^” from the outside, supported by a 20-mm beam. In the second variant, the rafters are shaped from the inside as box profiles. In both cases the base width is 60 mm. In order to increase the durability of the roof, it is possible to reinforce the profiles with additional aluminium or steel elements for both exterior and interior rafters. The rafters are interconnected by a cascade system of purlin profiles and hinge profiles supported on the eaves transom and wall eaves, which significantly facilitates proper water drainage and enables the effective ventilation, which is essential in the case of garden rooms. We have incorporated a unique solution in which the shape and location of the hinge profiles’ rotary points enables the rotation of the roof within the range from 7 to 45 degrees from level. This solution also makes it possible to use the same profiles for external and internal rafters, which makes prefabrication much easier, and reduces the number of profiles required for the construction of the roof.

The system also includes two different glazing layouts. These are insulated cover strips for external rafters and cover clamping strips for interior rafters, similar to the mullion and transom system of the curtain wall. They allow glazing within the range of 20-40 mm.
To ensure an effective system of rainwater drainage from the roof and condensed water from the inside of the structure, the system is equipped with an internal gutter integrated with the eaves’ beam profile and hinge profile, and an external gutter which can be detached from the eaves beam. This can change the appearance of the entire garden room. Cover profiles, whose appearance resembles the distinctive external features applied in the MB systems, can also serve this purpose.

The most important advantages and unique features of the MB-WG60 system

  • The continuous high level of thermal insulation in the corner area of the glass pane close to the joints between the wall and the roof, due to the special HPVC profile, which also serves the function of mounting the glazing profile, without limiting the thickness of glazing. The HPVC profile also facilitates the introduction of stepped glass, with a visible outer edge, which is important for low angles of the roof’s inclination.
  • The cascade system of rafter and purlin, and hinge profiles ensuring the optimum operation of the drainage and ventilation system, and the easy assembly and shop fabrication of the rafters.
  • Complete water and wind-proofness, through the incorporation of EPDM membranes, which protect the internal aluminium profiles from cold air from the outside.
  • Fixed rotary points between the eaves beam, the wall beam and hinge profiles, which guarantee the free rotation of the roof within the range of 7-45 degrees, and enable the easy covering of the joints between the wall and the roof, and reduce the number of profiles used.
  • The compatibility of the MB-WG60 system with the MB-SR50 curtain-wall-profile system
  • Mounted gutter profiles to the eaves-beam profiles allow the construction of large glazing profiles with thermal barriers, and enable the making of gutters of any shape, depending on the client’s requirements; to begin with, there are two types of gutters available – classic style and modern style gutters.
  • A wide range of glazing from 20 to 40 mm.

The provision of all devices in the system that guarantee proper ventilation, air exchange, heating and optimum air conditioning.
